Saw this montage a while ago on youtube, eventually it got deleted. Finally found it again, German skateboarding at its finest, hammers start to finish.

Went to the prem of this vid back in November. Absolutely awesome time, truly showcasin how much raw skateboarding goes on in Brighton over the course of a year. I was unable to pick up a copy off Ed as i had to come back to uni, which is why i am stoked on this hungover day that he has put the video online. Well worth the 50 minutes of your time.

High Contrast

After going and seeing High Contrast last night and being fully tanked up on a combination of Tuborg and £1.50 red square i remember very little of the music from the night apart form having a really really good time. Great people. Hilarious banter and various drunken antics.

I felt though i should at least try and listen to some of the music i paid £12.50 to see this afternoon and found this banger of a tune. Found myself listening to it on repeat for about half an hour. Great night. Great song.

Something that got left behind

This is the poster that was meant to go with the series of skateboards i put in one of my very first posts. Its to promote my environmentally friendly skateboard company Replenish which i worked on throughout my final major project in Art Foundation. It matched up well with the skateboards although there was no proper colour scheme. Once it was all mounted on the wall it seemed to work alright.

It was definitely a piece of work i was very proud of, however when you place this mug next to it, it loses all credibility.

Everted

This is the typeface i created for one of my previous units. We were given a questionnaire filled out by someone else in our class, and asked to draw themes from it and create either a unique product or a typeface. One of the main themes i found within the questionnaire i was given was that the person is a worrier. After doing a lot of research into worrying and sifting through medical books, i found that one of the main causes of worrying is a person not being able to show their true inner self, and put on a mask to please others. I decided to explore deconstructing Helvetica to remove all inside and outside aspects of the type to create almost an anti-worrying type. The system i used for cutting the upper case type was:

- Symmetrical type - cut at a diagonal

- Asymmetrical type - cut vertically

For the lower type i cut all the letterforms at a diagonal as there are fewer symmetrical letter forms.

Book Project

Finished our 4 week book project yesterday, everyones work looked fantastic, i was relatively pleased with my outcome however there were a couple of things i wish i would have done differently. Exhibition in the the Fox 4 building on Woodlane campus at 4pm i believe.

My book was based around the memory of going on a boat trip in Africa and seeing whales. From this i selected 2 themes heat and space. I from there decided that a layout of a book that could be opened both ways opposite ways up would be ideal for having 2 themes.

For the heat theme i originally wanted to an idea of writing with matches, however due to the unpredictable burn pattern this idea would have had an effective outcome or led me down the route i originally chose. When burning paper i liked the way you could see the charred edges, so after scanning burnt pieces of paper in i developed a typeface that had burnt paper inside it. I then after discussing my idea in a learning team looked down the route of famous heat/fire quotes. And discovered a list relating to various famous American authors and celebrity and political figures. One of the quotes is a quote from former president Ronald Reagan, another from the author Joseph Conrad, and another from a bestselling american female author.

For the space idea after discussing it in a learning team i liked the idea of looking at maps and scale. I still liked the idea of keeping the book interactive, so started researching maps and stuff like how many times shapes can fit inside other shapes etc. From there i found this website on how to make an origami balloon and looked at making an origami globe. The idea behind it is, from what we see the Earth appears pretty 2D but being places in an open space it starts to get us thinking about what is past the horizon line and how we can keep moving round the globe etc. To inflate the globe there is a tiny hole in the top you blow into.

Absolute love the Brian Jonestown massacre, hands down one of the best sounds going. Easy listening at its finest.
